What are Terms Included in a Speech?

If we talk about the parts of speech, then one should know that there are many terms included in a speech and it is very important part of English grammar and IELTS Preparation.

1. Noun
2. Adjective
3. Pronoun
4. Verb

7. Subject
8. Object
9. Preposition
10. Conjunction
11. Interjection
12. Articles

Let’s discuss them in detail:

1. Noun: A noun indicates a name of an individual, place or
   • My name is Rohit.
   • I live in Bombay.

2. Adjective: This   term   can   be   a  word   that   gives meaning   or compliment to the

3. Pronoun: It is the term used in place of the noun, as you should not use the same term again and

4. Verb: A verb indicates an action or

This term includes four different types which are as follows:

1. Present Participle which is also known as V1 form, such as: write, read, cut, and

• Past Perfect Participle is also known as V3 form, such as: written, eaten, managed, and

1. The continuous form which is also termed as V4 form contains V1+ ‘ing’ such as learning, studying, singing, and selling.

5. Helping Verb: These are the verb forms that are also known as Auxiliary These terms are extremely helpful for depicting the ‘Tense’ and ‘Verb Forms’.

The helping verb always comes prior to the Verb form. [HV + V form]

9. Preposition: This term is used to relate an object or an action with the noun or pronoun, there are many terms included in this part such as: of, from, after, since, in, on, at, with, and many

10. Conjunction: The terms involved in this term are used to link or connect two words or two sentences together such as: and, so, but, since, which, et
    • Shanaya left the home before we reached

12. Interjection: This term describes some sudden
    • Oh my god! When did this happen?

13. Articles: There are mainly three forms of articles which are discussed below:

A/ AN	THE
1. The only difference between ‘A’ and ‘AN’ is the vowel observed in the initial letter.	1. The usage of the article ‘THE’ does not depend upon vowels.
2. If a word starts with a vowel (A, E, I, O, U) then ‘AN’ is used. However, it also depends on the pronunciation. ▪    An umbrella ▪    A university ▪    A unique piece ▪    In the aforementioned examples, you can see that U  is a vowel but still the article ‘a’ is used as the pronunciation of university and unique starts with y rather than u.	2. Some examples are given as follow: ▪      The encyclopedia ▪      The Earth ▪      The Book of Lost Souls ▪      The sun
3. These articles are used for non-specific terms which are usually common. ▪    An iPhone ▪    A charger	3. This article is used for specific terms when you refer to something in particular. ▪      The cycle is broken. ▪      The moon revolves around the earth.
4. The terms for which A or AN are used are generally singular in form.	4. And it is used for plural forms. ▪      The elephants are healthy.

 

There are also determiners recognized as a part of the speech. Determines are the words which usually shorten the meaning of the noun that is used in reference to it such as a, an, the, these, that, those, his, her, one, two, each, much, many, every, and so on.

Note: It is not necessary to recognize or assume a word’s place in the sentence, it majorly depends upon the formation of the sentence.
